Everybody's Book
Client: Friends of Ashley Homes
Brief: To create and manage an art/literacy project with families in temporary accomodation in Hastings.
"The children love the project so much many have said that they wish it happened more times a week and not just the once"
Residents at Priory Avenue wanted a project that would allow them to work alongside their children. This would engage the children in activities at the end of the day and allow families to meet other families in the house. Funded by a Global grant from Hasting's Council, Everybody's book has created a special library for residents (adults and children), and working with David Kendall, and an artist (Louise Bristow), they have scripted and drawn their own picture book. The project has been a great succes in getting families involved, allowing them to focus on their literacy needs, and give the children more creative opportunities for learning and play at home.
Successful outcomes: Completed picture book to was launched at a special library event with Nick Sharratt Residents more confident in their literacy. Two residents have gone on to further training. Reading will have a higher profile within the house
