This day will discuss what is innovative and attractive about the new media, and how that can be married to reader development for teenagers. This does not mean that the new media will magically engage disaffected youth nor will it automatically have the desired outcome. There will be the opportunity to generate and share new ideas, and also to learn what has already been done in this field. By the end of the day you will have a clear picture of what reader centred work is, what it can achieve, and how to use new media both as a hook and as a spur to creativity.
Working with young people: how to thrive and how to survive!
This is a guide to working with young people, particularly those in danger of social exclusion. The training covers motivation, and engagement of young people and how you can make your service more relevant to this client group. You will participate in exercises designed to generate "menus of opportunities" to take to young people, and open up the consultation process.
Working with vulnerable groups
This day will be show the best ways of engaging clients in vulnerable groups. The exercises are based on constants such as trust, confidence, consultation, structure, and clarity of aims and objectives but we will focus on how this works with this client group. We will also look at various case studies to show what we can learn from work that has already been completed and evaluated.
